A Few Things to Keep in Mind Before You Apply

  • Programs change. Funding amounts, eligibility rules, and availability can shift at any time. Always verify details directly with the official program source before taking action.
  • Income limits are updated annually. If you were told you didn’t qualify in a previous year, it may be worth checking again — thresholds are reset each year.
  • Some programs can be combined. Stacking a grant with a loan is sometimes possible — but check with each program individually, as some have restrictions on layering.
  • Processing times vary widely. Some programs approve in weeks; others take several months. Contact the program directly for the most accurate timeline.
  • If a link is outdated, search the program name directly online or contact the administering organization by phone to find the current application page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to apply for these programs on my own?

That depends on the program. Most programs require you to apply directly with the administering organization — whether that’s a county office, a nonprofit, or a federal agency. This page gives you the information and links to get started. If you have questions about a specific program, reaching out to them directly is always the best first step.

Can I use multiple funding sources together?

In many cases, yes. Grants, loans, and local programs can often be stacked to cover more of your project costs — but combining programs requires checking eligibility rules with each program individually, as some have restrictions on layering. Contact each program directly to understand what’s allowed.

What types of home modifications are typically covered?

Common covered modifications include stair lifts, ramps, grab bars, widened doorways, roll-in showers, and other safety upgrades. Specific eligibility varies by program and your individual needs.

How long does it take to get approved for funding?

Timelines vary widely — anywhere from a few weeks to several months depending on the program, funding availability, and application volume. Contact the program directly for the most accurate timeline information for your situation.

Does Liv Home Pros help with the application process?

We can help you identify which programs might be worth exploring based on your location and situation — but each program has its own application process managed by its own organization. Schedule a free consultation if you’d like to talk through your options and get pointed in the right direction.

Are there income limits I need to meet?

Some programs have income limits while others do not. VA grants and HUD Title I loans, for example, don’t require an income test — but USDA and many state programs do. Each program sets its own thresholds, which can also change annually. Check directly with the program or visit their official website for current income limits.
