From apple and pumpkin picking to hayrides and corn mazes, there are all types of activities to enjoy in the fall.
However, if you use a power wheelchair or mobility scooter, it can be a little tricky to find a location for accessible autumn activities. Here are some accessible activities happening this fall throughout Western and Central New York.
Wickham Farms
Located in Monroe County, Wickham Farms is your destination for apples, pumpkins, cider, and fall family fun in Rochester and Western New York.
While the corn maze may not be accessible-friendly, the rest of the farm features a paved walkway that makes it easy for those with mobility devices.

2. Chase the Fall Foliage
Looking for more accessible autumn activities? Seeing the changing leaves is one of the best parts of the fall season ‒ and it’s cheap!
Luckily, there are accessible outdoor locations throughout Western and Central New York where you can absorb and experience the fall foliage up close and personal.
Genesee Riverway Trail, Mount Hope Cemetery, and Highland Park in Rochester, NY, all have paved, gravel, or boardwalk trails that are easy for those in wheelchairs or mobility devices.
You could also make a trip to Letchwork State Park. They have roads where you can drive and paved drop-off points to park, get out, and take in the sights.
Are you located in Western New York? Check out the paved trail of Erie Canalway Trail in Lockport, NY, which is easily accessible with a mobility device and features a quaint, small-town experience amidst the fall leaves and changing colors.
3. Decorate Your Mobility Device
Want to dress up for Halloween? Whether you plan to go trick-or-treating with your grandchildren or have a laugh with your friends, there’s no shortage of ways you can decorate your mobility device and make this Halloween one for the books.
You can wrap fake autumn leaves, battery-powered string lights, fake bones, or faux cobwebs around your power wheelchair or in your mobility scooter basket. Caution: Do not attach any decor to the wheels or lower half of your mobility device.
If you want to go all out and dress up yourself, you can decorate your mobility device to enhance your costume. For example, you could dress up as a pirate and decorate your mobility device to resemble a pirate ship ‒ or as a queen and dress up your mobility device as a throne.
4. Celebrate the Autumn Season at Home
You can still enjoy fall activities without leaving the comfort of your home ‒ and there’s no shortage of ways to go about doing so!
You could host a scary movie marathon with friends or family with all the best Halloween snacks, caramel apples, popcorn, candy, and much more. In between movies, you can make Halloween crafts or play DIY games like mystery touch-and-feel boxes, truth-or-scare, or a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt.
Do you enjoy baking and want to make good use of your new accessible kitchen? Invite friends over for a baking party and whip up delicious seasonal treats like apple pie, pumpkin cake, or autumn leaf cutout cookies!
